A 70 year old woman woke altered to note that one of the couches in the living room was on fire in front of her. At 16:45 this afternoon, Wednesday November 23, 2015, the ECU 911 system received the first warning of a fire inside the house, located in Leon Garcia and Ruiz de Castilla streets, in the field La Gasca, in northern Quito. The captain of the Fire Department, David Carvajal, said the woman left a candle burning in the living room and fell asleep on another couch. "Luckily he was able to leave and alert their relatives living on the second floor," he said. The flames quickly consumed inside because the house is of mixed construction: block with wood paneling on walls and ceilings. Seven units, including ambulances, tankers and fire engines arrived at the site. The windows of the apartment, on the third floor, and the flames exploded out there. Four quarters were affected by the fire and the whole house was impregnated with soot and smoke. After controlling the fire, fire investigation team went to the house and inspected. No one was hurt.
